Halaba Eco-Tours

The Halaba’s cultural values, norms, customary institutions, social systems, and methods of economic activities reveal ways of living and sustaining the daily life of the people, Halaba is one the ethnic groups in South Ethiopia, with its unique culture, nature and history.

The Halabas have shared various cultural practices and life style with various other peoplescultures. The cultural interaction established with others and the contacts with outsiders who have influenced the culture, customs, institutions and artistic heritages of the nationality in some extent.

Recommended itineraries

Day 01: Kulito – Arto hot spring 

After breakfast, start trekking from Kulito town to Arto hot spring and on the way, cross Bilate River and different landscapes. When we get at the hot spring, we will take shower with fresh water from the hot spring and install our tents for camping.

Day 02: Arto hot spring – Kulito town

In the morning, walk around the hot spring to observe some bird species and continue trekking back to the town, on the way you will attend on coffee ceremony in one of the traditional huts of halaba village, after lunch visit the Fama falls before you get back to the town.

Day 03: Kulito town – Sifame caves 

After breakfast, trek to Sifame defence caves crossing different halaba’s villages and landscapes. After lunch, visit the colorful cultural houses of halaba people.

Danakil Depression

One of the lowest points on earth, Danakil depression (130 meters below sea level) to see the wonderful and colorful formation of sulfur and phosphorus, visit the salt lake of Asale and discover how people get plate of salt in a traditional way.

·        Recommended Itineraries 

Day 1 – Addis – Mekele – Erta’ale

Fly from Addis to Mekele then; drive to the village to arrange Camels to transport luggage, cooking and camping gear, and around the sunset start hiking to the active volcanic eruption of Erta’ale, which takes about an hour and spend the rest of the night at the rim.

Day 2 – Erta’ale – Ahmed Ela

After an early breakfast, drive to Ahmed Ela visiting the nomadic people of Afar, at Ahmed Ela, visit the Salt Lake of Asal, used by the nomadic people of Afar, and the interesting Camel Caravans with beautiful sunset, which transport bars of salt to the Highlands of Tigray Region.

O/N at Camping

Day 3 – Ahmed Ela – Dallol – Mekele

In the morning, drive to one of the lowest points on earth, Dallol (130 meters below sea level) to see the wonderful and colorful formation of sulfur and phosphorus. Moreover, you will visit how the nomadic people of Afar get salt in traditional ways; and then, you will drive back to Mekele

Day 4 – Mekele – Addis Ababa

fly from Mekele to Addis and you will have a half day city tour of Addis including the National Museum of Ethiopia where there is the famous fossil of Lucy, the holy trinity cathedral church and Merkato, one of the biggest open-air markets in Africa..

Day 4 – Axum + Saint Marry church

After an early breakfast, you will part of the participants in the Axum Zion’s celebration and visit some attraction sites including:- the famous stele park (UNESCO World Heritage Site)…

Day 5 – Axum – Addis

After visiting some the rest of the attraction sites, you will fly back to Addis Ababa, in the late evening; you will have a fare well dinner party at one of the best traditional restaurants where you will see the folkloric dance of the people of Ethiopia, and taste variety of Ethiopian meals.
